VEGOILS-Palm climbs for second day as traders await export data

JAKARTA, Feb 15 (Reuters) - Malaysian palm oil rose for a second session on Wednesday as market participants awaited export data from cargo surveyors amid expectations of a slowdown in production this month.

The benchmark palm oil contract FCPOc3 for April delivery gained 0.73% to 3,985 ringgit ($912.11) per tonne in early trade, after Tuesday's 0.8% gain.

FUNDAMENTALS
Dalian's most-active soyoil contract DBYv1 was trading sideways, while its palm oil contract DCPv1 rose 1.19%. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade BOc2 were down 0.4%.

Palm is affected by price movements in related oils as they compete for a share in the global vegetable oils market.

Cargo surveyors are expected to report Feb. 1-15 palm oil exports data later on Wednesday. Malaysia's palm oil exports during Feb. 1-10 rose between 23.3% and 39.3% from a month earlier.

India's rapeseed production in 2023 could jump 7.1% from a year earlier to a record 12.8 million tonnes, the government said, which could help the world's biggest vegetable oil importer reduce overseas purchases of palm oil.

Palm oil looks neutral in a range of 3,859-4,009 ringgit per tonne, and an escape could suggest a direction, said Reuters technical analyst Wang Tao

MARKET NEWS

GRAINS-Wheat, corn ease after rally, Black Sea supply woes limit decline

SINGAPORE, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Chicago wheat and corn futures slid for the first time in three sessions on Tuesday, although concerns over supplies from the Black Sea region provided a floor under the market.

Soybeans were largely unchanged, supported by dryness curbing output in key supplier Argentina.

FUNDAMENTALS
The most-active wheat contract on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) Wv1 fell 0.2% to $7.90-1/2 a bushel, as of 0113 GMT, and corn Cv1 gave up 0.1% to $6.84-1/2 a bushel. Soybeans Sv1 were down half a cent at $15.42-1/4 a bushel.

Corn and wheat futures have climbed in recent sessions as concerns intensified that fighting in Ukraine could threaten the agreement for the shipping channel for Ukraine's grain exports, which expires in March.

Russia said on Monday it would be "inappropriate" to extend the Black Sea grain deal unless sanctions affecting its agricultural exports were lifted and other issues were resolved.

Ukraine's grain exports in the 2022/23 season, which runs through to June, are down 28.7% at 29.2 million tonnes so far, due to a smaller harvest and logistical difficulties caused by the Russian invasion, agriculture ministry data showed on Monday.

Central-eastern Argentina, the country's farming heartland, received between 5 and 25 millimetres of rainfall on Monday. But given the country's persistent drought on top of high temperatures last week, the benefits will be short-lived, meteorologists said.

The U.S. soybean crush in January likely increased versus December but declined a bit from the same month a year ago, analysts said, ahead of a monthly National Oilseed Processors Association (NOPA) report due on Wednesday.

NOPA members, which handle about 95% of all soybeans processed in the United States, were estimated to have crushed 181.656 million bushels last month, according to the average of estimates from nine analysts.

Commodity funds were net buyers of CBOT corn, soymeal, soybean and wheat futures contracts on Monday and net sellers of soyoil futures, traders said.

MARKET NEWS

VEGOILS-Palm oil rebounds from three-day drop on firmer rival oils, exports

JAKARTA, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Malaysian palm oil rose on Tuesday, rebounding from three days of losses, as firmer Dalian soyoil prices and higher exports underpinned the market.

The benchmark palm oil contract FCPOc3 for April delivery rose 0.41% to 3,939 ringgit ($904.89) per tonne in early trade, after losing 2% over the past three sessions.

FUNDAMENTALS
Dalian's most-active soyoil contract DBYcv1 gained 0.30%, while its palm oil contract DCPv1 eased 0.18%. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade BOc2 traded sideways.

Palm is affected by price movements in related oils as they compete for a share in the global vegetable oils market.

Exports of Malaysian palm oil products for Feb. 1-10 rose between 23.3% and 39.3% from Jan.1- Jan.10, cargo surveyors said.

Indonesia said last week it would review its palm oil export quota ratios amid rising domestic cooking oil prices. A government official said on Monday the review was still ongoing.

Palm oil may retest a support of 3,859 ringgit per tonne, a break below which could result in a drop to 3,708 ringgit, said Reuters technical analyst Wang Tao

VEGOILS-Palm oil opens higher on higher exports, stronger rival oils

JAKARTA, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Malaysian palm oil futures rebounded on Monday, helped by higher exports and stronger rival oils, while market participants monitored Indonesian exports policy.

The benchmark palm oil contract FCPOc3 for April delivery rose 0.61% to 3,955 ringgit ($908.99) per tonne in early trade, after two days of losses.

FUNDAMENTALS
Exports of Malaysian palm oil products for Feb. 1-10 rose 39.3% from Jan. 1-10, cargo surveyor Intertek Testing Services said on Saturday, while independent inspection company AmSpec Agri Malaysia said on Friday rose 32.51%.

Malaysia's palm oil inventories at end-January rose for the first time in three months, up 3.27% from the month before to 2.27 million tonnes, according to Malaysia Palm Oil Board (MPOB) data.

Indonesia said last week it would review its palm oil export quota ratios amid rising prices of cooking oil at home.

Dalian's most-active soyoil contract DBYcv1 gained 1.01%, while its palm oil contract DCPv1 rose 0.71%. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade BOc2 were down 0.45%.

Palm oil is affected by price movements in related oils as they compete for a share in the global vegetable oils market.

Oil prices eased after rising 2% in the previous session, as investors shrugged off the impact of Russian output cuts, instead focusing on short-term demand concerns stemming from refinery maintenance in Asia and the United States.

Weaker crude oil futures make palm a less attractive option for biodiesel feedstock.

MARKET NEWS

GRAINS-U.S. soybean, corn futures dip on lacklustre export data

Feb 10 (Reuters) - U.S. soybean and corn futures were slightly weaker in range-bound Asian trading on Friday and set for weekly losses as uninspiring export data dented sentiment.

Soybeans were also pressured by expectations that overseas buyers will soon shift to Brazil, although losses were limited by ongoing concerns over production in drought-hit Argentina.
Wheat was slightly up in another choppy session.

FUNDAMENTALS
The most-active soybean contract Sv1 on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) was down 0.1% at $15.17-1/2 a bushel, as of 0208 GMT.

CBOT corn Cv1 dipped 0.1% to $6.70-1/4 a bushel, while wheat Wv1 edged 0.1% higher to $7.57-3/4 a bushel.

The weekly U.S. export data released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Thursday showed sales of soybeans fell to 644,400 tonnes from 927,951 tonnes. Corn export sales were down 33% at 1.170 million tonnes.

U.S. wheat export sales hit 150,900 tonnes, near the low-end of market expectations.

Traders remained focused this week on the impact of a drought in Argentina on crops, with the USDA making cuts to its forecast for the country's soybean crop.
The USDA trimmed its outlook on Argentine soybean production to 41 million tonnes, down from 45.5 million tonnes in its January estimate.

Traders also kept an eye on rain delays to Brazil's soybean harvest, which may also hold up corn planting.

The new U.S. agriculture trade chief on Thursday told Reuters that he has given Mexico until Feb. 14 to respond to a U.S. request to explain the science behind Mexico's planned bans on genetically modified corn and glyphosate herbicide.

Consultancy Strategie Grains for a second month in a row raised its forecast of European Union soft wheat production this year, citing good growing conditions so far.

Commodity funds were net sellers of CBOT corn, soybean, wheat, and soyoil futures contracts on Thursday, and were net buyers of soymeal, traders said.

MARKET NEWS

VEGOILS-Palm edges lower on weaker rival oils, eyes weekly gain

SINGAPORE, Feb 10 (Reuters) - Malaysian palm oil futures edged lower on Friday, as losses in rival vegetable oils on the Dalian Commodity Exchange weighed on sentiment, but the benchmark contract was still set to end the week higher.

The benchmark palm oil contract FCPOc3 for April delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange slid 100 ringgit, or 2.52%, to 3,873 ringgit ($895.28) a tonne in early trade. The contract has gained about 0.6% so far in the week.

FUNDAMENTALS
The weekly U.S. export data released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Thursday showed sales of soybeans fell to 644,400 tonnes from 927,951 tonnes.

Dalian's most-active soyoil contract DBYcv1 fell 1.92%, while its palm oil contract DCPcv1 gave up 2.54%. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade BOcv1 were down 0.07%.

Palm oil is affected by price movements in related oils as they compete for a share in the global vegetable oils market.

Malaysia's palm oil exports likely slumped 21.7% to 1.15 million tonnes due to slowing shipments to largest consumers India and China, a Reuters survey showed on Monday.

The Malaysia Palm Oil Board (MPOB) and cargo surveyors are scheduled to release key supply and demand data at 0430 GMT on Friday.

Oil prices fell in early trade but were headed for a weekly gain, with the market continuing to seesaw between fears of a recession hitting the United States and hopes for strong fuel demand recovery in China, the world's top oil importer.
Weaker crude oil futures make palm a less attractive option for biodiesel feedstock.

Palm oil FCPOc3 may drop to 3,888 ringgit per tonne, following the completion of a flat pattern from the Jan. 25 low of 3,721 ringgit, Reuters technical analyst Wang Tao said.

GRAINS-U.S. soybeans edge higher with drought-hit Argentine crops in focus

Feb 9 (Reuters) - Chicago soybean futures were slightly firmer in choppy Asian trading on Thursday, as traders weighed the impact of dry weather conditions in Argentina while also taking into account a larger-than-expected build in U.S. stockpiles.

Wheat and corn pulled back after advancing in the previous session.

FUNDAMENTALS
The most-active soybean contract Sv1 on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) was up 0.2% at $15.22-1/4 a bushel, as of 0219 GMT.

CBOT wheat Wv1 dropped 0.2% to $7.63-1/4 a bushel, while corn Cv1 also slipped 0.2% to $6.77-1/2 a bushel.

Soybean harvest in drought-hit Argentina, the world's third-biggest producer of the oilseed, will fall to 41.00 million tonnes, down from 45.50 million tonnes estimated in January, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said in its latest monthly demand and supply report.

The country's corn harvest was pegged at 47 million tonnes, 5 million lower than the January outlook.

U.S. soybean end stocks were seen at 225 million bushels, up 15 million bushels from the January outlook due to a slower pace of crushing at processing plants in December following unusually bad weather, the USDA said.

The U.S. corn stockpile at the end of the 2022/23 marketing year would likely come in at 1.267 billion bushels, 25 million bushels higher than a month ago, the USDA said.

Analysts had been expecting the USDA report to show U.S. corn stocks of 1.266 billion bushels and soybean stocks of 211 million bushels, according to the average of estimates given in a Reuters poll.

Brazil's food supply and statistics agency Conab on Wednesday cut its forecast for the country's second corn crop, citing delays to soy harvesting.

China became the main destination of Brazilian corn exports in January by volume, surpassing traditional importers such as Japan, Iran and Spain, according to revised trade data released by the government on Wednesday.

Russia said on Wednesday that work to unblock Russian exports under the Black Sea grain deal was unsatisfactory, accusing the European Union of failing to deliver on its promises, the TASS news agency reported.

Ukraine grain exports in the 2022/23 season, which runs through to June, are down 29.2% to 28.2 million tonnes so far, due to a smaller harvest and logistical difficulties caused by the Russian invasion, agriculture ministry data showed on Wednesday.

Commodity funds were net buyers of CBOT corn, soybean, wheat, and soymeal futures contracts on Wednesday, and were net sellers of soyoil, traders said.

VEGOILS-Palm oil edge lower on profit-taking, weaker rivals

SINGAPORE, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Malaysian palm oil futures slipped from a one-month high on Thursday as traders booked profits, with losses in rival edible oils on higher-than-expected U.S. supplies further weighing on palm.

The benchmark palm oil contract FCPOc3 for April delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange slid 57 ringgit, or 1.43%, to 3,940 ringgit ($915.43) a tonne in early trade.

FUNDAMENTALS
Palm futures are headed marginally lower from profit booking and positioning ahead of Malaysia Palm Oil Board (MPOB) data due tomorrow, said Sathia Varqa, co-founder of Singapore-based Palm Oil Analytics.

Malaysia's palm oil exports likely slumped 21.7% to 1.15 million tonnes due to slowing shipments to largest consumers India and China, a Reuters survey showed on Monday.

The MPOB and cargo surveyors are scheduled to release key supply and demand data on Friday.

The U.S. Agriculture Department on Wednesday reported bigger-than-expected soybean supplies due to weaker domestic demand and lowered its forecast for Argentine soybean harvests.

Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade BOcv1 were down 0.41%. Dalian's most-active soyoil contract DBYcv1 fell 0.71%, while its palm oil contract DCPcv1 gave up 0.72%.

Palm oil is affected by price movements in related oils as they compete for a share in the global vegetable oils market.

Lower palm oil production, higher Ramadan Demand and tighter Indonesian exports support palm prices
2023/02/08 12:09 PM

2022/23 PALM OIL MARKET OUTLOOK UPDATE - FEBRUARY 2023

•    Regionally wet weather conditions reduced 2022/23 Indonesia palm oil production to 46.5 million metric tonnes (mt), down less than 1% from the last update

•    Elevated flooding risks and reduced planted areas lowered our 2022/23 Malaysia palm oil production estimate to 18.7 million mt, down less than 1% from the last update.

•    2022/23 world palm oil imports are estimated at 49.5 million mt, inching lower from last month's estimates at 49.6 million mt, and up 15.9% from the 2021/22 season. Global demand for palm oil is expected to be supported by persistent wide discounts of palm oil prices over rival vegetable oils, and prospects for higher import growth from key consuming countries.

•    The low crop season and unfavourable wet weather conditions in H2 January maintained high flooding risks, fuelling concerns over palm oil supplies. Meanwhile, there are also concerns over Ukraine's lower sunflower seed crop due to the war, drought, and low vegetation density in Argentina that will likely worsen soybean crop yields and the impact of La Niña transitioning into El Niño.

•    On the demand side, stronger Malaysian Ringgit and Indonesian Rupiah prompted palm oil to become slightly expensive for international buyers. High palm oil stocks in many key destinations (including China, India, etc.), the winter season, and the Lunar New Year holiday break curbed exports during January. However, demand for palm oil is expected to improve ahead of Ramadan, which falls in March 2022. Countries celebrating the festival will typically ramp up purchases to meet festive demand. Palm oil price discounts to rival oils remain attractive, which may still support palm oil purchases from importing countries.

•    Looking ahead, attention will be focussed on Malaysia's migrant worker arrivals, high flooding risks in the region, potentially tighter Indonesian palm oil exports and higher Ramadan festive demand. External factors that bear watching include the soybean crop development in South America, the Black Sea grain corridor and global recession jitters in 2023.
