The contract posted a 6.84% rise so far this week, but is on track to post a monthly loss.

VEGOILS-Palm set for biggest weekly fall in 18 weeks

KUALA LUMPUR, March 24 (Reuters) - Malaysian palm oil futures were set on Friday for their biggest weekly drop in 18 weeks, as prices fell for a seventh session, weighed down by weakness in rival edible oils.

The benchmark palm oil contract FCPOc3 for June delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange slid 12 ringgit, or 0.34%, to 3,557 ringgit ($804.02) a tonne in early trade, hitting its lowest since Oct. 4.

For the week, the contract has slumped 9.3% so far.

FUNDAMENTALS
Malaysia maintained its April export tax for crude palm oil at 8% and raised its reference price, a circular on the Malaysian Palm Oil Board website showed on Thursday.

Dalian's most-active soyoil contract DBYcv1 fell 1.6%, while its palm oil contract DCPcv1 eased 1.2%. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade BOcv1 were up 0.9%.

Palm oil is affected by price movements in related oils as they compete for a share in the global vegetable oils market.

Oil prices fell on worries about potential oversupply after U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said refilling the country's Strategic Petroleum Reserve may take several years, making palm oil a less attractive option as biodiesel feedstock.

Palm oil may drop to 3,420 ringgit per tonne, as suggested by a projection analysis, Reuters technical analyst Wang Tao said.

VEGOILS-Palm extends losses on weaker rival edible oils

KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 (Reuters) - Malaysian palm oil futures extended falls on Thursday to their lowest in more than five months, tracking losses in rival edible oils and crude oil and as investors weighed the U.S. Federal Reserve's comments.

The benchmark palm oil contract FCPOc3 for June delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange slid 42 ringgit, or 1.15%, to 3,622 ringgit ($818.53) a tonne in early trade, hitting its lowest since Oct. 14.

FUNDAMENTALS
Oil prices fell after Fed Chair Jerome Powell re-stated his commitment to curbing inflation, including the possibility of more interest rate rises. Lower crude oil prices make palm a less attractive option for biodiesel feedstock.

Dalian's most-active soyoil contract DBYcv1 fell 1.7%, while its palm oil contract DCPcv1 eased 2.4%. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade BOcv1 were down 0.2%.

Palm oil is affected by price movements in related oils as they compete for a share in the global vegetable oils market.

Palm oil may test a support at 3,615 ringgit per tonne, a break below which could open the way towards 3,494-3,569 ringgit range, Reuters technical analyst Wang Tao said.

GRAINS-Wheat extends losses on Black Sea deal, soybeans firm

SINGAPORE, March 22 (Reuters) - Chicago wheat futures lost more ground on Wednesday, weighed down by extension of a Black Sea export deal that eased concerns over global supplies.

Soybeans and corn prices rose in early Asian trade.

FUNDAMENTALS
The most-active wheat contract on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) Wv1 lost 0.1% to $6.82-3/4 a bushel, as of 0012 GMT.

Soybeans Sv1 added 0.3% to $14.70-3/4 a bushel and corn Cv1 gained 0.4% at $6.32-1/4 a bushel.

The deal, allowing the safe export of grain from Ukrainian and Russian Black Sea ports, was renewed on Saturday for 60 days - half the intended period - after Moscow said any further extension beyond May 18 would hinge on the removal of some Western sanctions.

Russian wheat prices declined last week due to continued high supplies from Russia and lower prices from the country's major competitors, including Ukraine, analysts said.

However, grain markets are also monitoring harvest prospects in key producing and consuming countries.

Ukraine's 2023 grain harvest is likely to fall to 44.3 million tonnes from 53.1 million in 2022 as less acreage is sown due to Russia's invasion, a forecast by the Ukrainian agriculture ministry showed on Monday.

In India, unseasonal rains and hailstorms have damaged ripening, winter-planted crops including wheat in the country's fertile northern, central and western plains, exposing thousands of farmers to losses and raising the risk of further food price inflation.

Torrential rains on Sunday and Monday lashed the states of Punjab, Haryana, parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, which account for the bulk of wheat output in India, the world's biggest producer after China, flattening crops and flooding farms.

Commodity funds were net sellers of CBOT corn, soybean, wheat, soymeal and soyoil futures contracts on Tuesday, traders said.

MARKET NEWS
Global shares leapt on Tuesday after the rescue of Credit Suisse stemmed a rout in equities and whetted risk appetite, although financial system uncertainties limited buying as investors awaited the outcome of a Federal Reserve meeting.

VEGOILS-Palm oil slips over 3% to five-month low

KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 (Reuters) - Malaysian palm oil futures fell more than 3% on Wednesday to its lowest in five months, dragged by deep losses in rival edible oils, crude and lingering concerns over the global banking crisis.

The benchmark palm oil contract FCPOc3 for June delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange slid 121 ringgit, or 3.2%, to 3,663 ringgit ($819.10) a tonne during early trade, its lowest since Oct. 14.

FUNDAMENTALS
Exports of Malaysian palm oil products for Mar. 1-20 rose 30.4% to 929,274 tonnes from 712,740 tonnes shipped during the same period in Feb., cargo surveyor Societe Generale de Surveillance said on Tuesday.

Dalian's most active soyoil contract DBYcv1 fell 3.1%, while its palm oil contract DCPcv1 lost 3.9%. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade BOcv1 extended losses after falling 3% overnight.

Palm oil is affected by price movements in related oils as they compete for a share in the global vegetable oils market.

Oil fell after an industry report showed U.S. crude inventories rose unexpectedly last week, indicating that fuel demand may be weakening, making palm a less attractive option for biodiesel feedstock.

Palm oil may test a support at 3,736 ringgit per tonne, a break below which could open the way towards 3,690 ringgit, Reuters technical analyst Wang Tao said.

MARKET NEWS
Asian shares staged a cautious bounce on Wednesday with hopes that a global banking crisis would be averted, vying with uncertainty over the outlook for U.S. interest rates as the Federal Reserve holds a high-stakes meeting on policy.

VEGOILS-Palm snaps 3-day slide on overnight Chicago soyoil strength

JAKARTA, March 21 (Reuters) - Malaysian palm oil futures rose on Tuesday after three straight sessions of losses, tracking overnight strength in Chicago soyoil prices and buoyed by strong export data.

The benchmark palm oil contract FCPOc3 for June delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange climbed 30 ringgit, or 0.79%, to 3,815 ringgit ($852.70) a tonne in early trade.

The contract fell on Monday to its lowest close in nearly seven weeks, dragged down by weakness in rival vegetable oils and global economic concerns.

FUNDAMENTALS
Exports of Malaysian palm oil products for March 1-20 rose between 19.8% and 29.8% from a month earlier, data from cargo surveyor Intertek Testing Services and independent inspection company AmSpec Agri Malaysia showed.

Indonesia's palm oil production for 2023/24 is seen at 46 million metric tonnes (MMT), an increase of 3% from the previous year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service report said.

Dalian's most active soyoil contract DBYcv1 slid 0.22%, while its palm oil contract DCPcv1 dropped 1.30%. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade BOc2 were down 0.24% after Monday's 0.8% gain.

Palm oil FCPOc3 may bounce further to 3,931 ringgit per tonne, as suggested by its wave pattern and a falling channel.

MARKET NEWS
Asian stocks were lifted from lows on Tuesday, with the rescue of Credit Suisse stemming selling in bank shares, though the mood was fragile and the stress in markets had traders wondering whether U.S. rate hikes might be finished.

Oil prices stabilised after falling early in the previous session on investor worries that recent banking-sector problems would weigh on the global economy and limit demand for crude.

VEGOILS-Palm drops to over five-week low on weaker rival oils

JAKARTA, March 20 (Reuters) - Malaysian palm oil futures dropped for a third straight session on Monday to the lowest in more than five weeks, tracking weakness in rival vegetable oils.

The benchmark palm oil contract FCPOc3 for June delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange lost 62 ringgit, or 1.58%, to 3,858 ringgit ($862.89) a tonne in early trade.

The contract fell for two consecutive weeks last Friday, losing 4.23% for the week amid fears that the closure of several U.S banks and trouble at Swiss lender Credit Suisse would blow up into a global banking crisis.

FUNDAMENTALS
Exports of Malaysian palm oil products for March 1-15 rose between 55% and 72% from the same period in February, as shipments to India jumped ahead of the Muslim festival of Eid, according to cargo surveyors data.

Top producer Indonesia said it will enforce domestic market obligation to ensure palm oil producers sell 450,000 tonnes of cheap cooking oil at home in March to secure supply ahead of Islamic festivities, after missing the target in February.

Dalian's most active soyoil contract DBYcv1 slid 0.02%, while its palm oil contract DCPcv1 dropped 0.98%. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade BOc2 were down 0.59%.

Palm oil FCPOc3 may break a support of 3,892 ringgit per tonne, and fall into a range of 3,810-3,856 ringgit, Reuters technical analyst Wang Tao said.

MARKET NEWS
Futures and Asian stocks fought to stablise, though banks remained under pressure on Monday as a rescue deal for Credit Suisse and a concerted effort by central banks to restore confidence eased immediate fears of a contagion.

India scraps 2023/24 duty-free import quota on sunflower oil
Reuters News
01-Mar-2023 05:24:50 PM

MUMBAI, March 1 (Reuters) - India has decided to scrap a duty-free imports quota of 2 million tonnes of crude sunflower oil for the next fiscal starting from April 1, the government said on Wednesday, as the world's biggest importer of vegetable oils tries to support local oilseed farmers.

The move could lead to higher imports of palm oil, which was earlier attracting taxes even as imports of sunflower oil and soyoil were allowed without any taxes under the quota.

New Delhi in May 2022 allowed duty free imports of 2 million tonnes of sunflower oil in 2022/23 and had initially planned to repeat that in 2023/24.

India sources sunflower oil from Russia and Ukraine.

In January, India decided to scrap duty free imports of crude soyoil for the new fiscal year.

India imports soyoil mainly from Argentina, Brazil and the United States.

"Crude palm oil imports would become attractive from April onwards," said a Mumbai-based dealer with a global trade house.

India imports palm oil mainly from Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
